Antikes Pandosien

Im Dorf Kastri, 5 Km entfernt, befindet sich auf einem Hügel, die Akropolis der antiken Stadt Pandosia, die nach der Überquerung des Flusses Acheron auf einer Entfernung von etwa 200 m erreichbar war.

Pandosia war eine der ältesten und wichtigsten Städte von Epirus. Es war eine Kolonie der Ilien, mit einer Bevölkerung von 10.000 Einwohnern. Der Zeitpunkt der Gründung wird im7. oder 8. Jahrhundert v.Chr. geschätzt.

Bewundernswert sind die polygonalen Mauern der Stadt, mit einem Umfang von etwa 1600 m, deren Erbauung wird jedoch zeitlich früher eingeordnet, nämlich zwischen dem 4. Und 3. Jahrhundert v.Chr.
